David Slays Goliath
What a weekend - at least if you're a Tiger fan. I have to admit, it helps now that they are a respectable team. A few years ago, they challenged the record for most losses in a season. Last year, they went to the World Series. I don't know if they'll pull it off this year, but at least they took out the vaunted Boston Red Sox in a sweep this weekend.
Our future ace pitcher is Andrew Miller, who looks like he's 16 but is really 22, threw a great game on Friday as the Tigers beat the Red Sox 9-2.
I wandered off to the Saturday game with some friends to watch Big Poppy (David Ortiz) smack a 2 run homer off of Jeremy Bonderman early in the top of the first. Expecting doom, we dodged the bullet and survived the inning down only 2-0. By the fifth inning, Craig Monroe of all people stepped up to the challenge and drove in 2 RBI's to even the score. The Tigers finally used wisdom and intentionally walked Ortiz the rest of the evening (4 times). Finally, late into the night, Pudge Rodriguez slipped one past Coco Crisp, driving in Gary Sheffield to win the game.
Finally, in spite of committing 5 errors, the Tigers pulled off a 6-5 victory over Boston, in large part due to Curtis Granderson.
What a weekend.
