Rich Galen, in his Mullblog, posted a link to see how Senators voted on the recently failed Immigration Reform bill.

Thank the Good Lord, 15 Democrats defected from party lines and the bill failed by a 46-53 vote (with one abstention).

Michigan Businesses and Illegal Immigrants

If you look at your built in map of Michigan's lower peninsula on your hand, this event occurred at the tip of the thumb.

Police were investigating the Wednesday drowning of an illegal alien from Mexico who could not swim but apparently jumped off the breakwater at Port Austin.

An investigation led to the deportation of his five companions, all illegal aliens from Mexico.

The six men, age 16 to 33, worked at the VerHaar Dairy Farm along Soper just outside Bad Axe, police said. Police said none of the men could speak English and did not have green cards or Social Security cards.

Now, why would a farm do such a thing? Some business owner is in trouble with the IRS and whatever the new INS bureau is called.

First Step Against Illegal Immigration

One of the major cop-outs in the illegal immigration debate is this: There are millions and millions of foreigners already here. It would be an overwhelming task to find and deport them all.

Let me suggest a good starting point – an all-out declaration of war on the organized criminal street gang MS-13, comprised mostly of illegal aliens and now threatening the lives and quality of life of nearly all Americans nationwide.

Just last week, for instance, the Washington Post reported three leaders of the Mara Salvatrucha participated in or planned four murders in the area during a span of two years, according to a federal prosecutor in a racketeering trial involving the terrorist gang.

Attorney James Trusty told the court MS-13 gang members abide by the ethos "rape, kill and control." He said they use guns, knives and machetes.

"This gang works together locally, nationally, even internationally," said Trusty.

MS-13 was a little-known band of miscreants from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala five years ago – hardly known to the general public. But a reign of murderous terror waged across the country has made it infamous.

You want a place to start the battle against illegal aliens? MS-13 is a priority. These are not farmworkers. These are not gardeners. These are not cheap construction workers or meatpackers. These are murderers and rapists.

Instead of targeting Border Patrol officers, the U.S. Justice Department should use its resources to eradicate MS-13. Instead of meddling in the conduct of the war in Iraq, the U.S. Congress should resolve to wipe out this internal threat to our peace and security by the end of this year. Instead of pushing for "comprehensive immigration reform," President Bush should call for an all-out war on this band of thugs.

If the illegal alien problem is too big to tackle all at once, set priorities. MS-13 should be the starting point.

A View on Illegal Immigration

While I am at it, I know this is making the email rounds across the internet, but it was too good to pass up. I don't know who the original credit goes to.

Let's say I break into your house

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let's say I break into your house.

Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, 'I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest' (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters:

You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well, you know, I did break into your house.

And what a deal it is for me!!!

I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you ca n do about it without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.

Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you to learn MY LANGUAGE!!! So you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America .....if you agree, pass it on (in English). Share it if you see the value of it.

If not blow it off......... along with your future Social Security funds, and a lot of other things.

Private Police Force?

Wow. Here is an interesting concept: Private Police to fight illegal immigration. This story, of course, out of CAL-EE-FORN-EE-AH.

Fed up with what it says is a failure on the part of authorities to act on the area's illegal immigrant problem, a group purporting to be residents of the affluent, sprawling and isolated La Cresta, Tenaja and Santa Rosa communities is vowing to take matters into its own hands.

A group calling itself Private Police Force announced last week on a new Web site that it will begin doing the job U.S. Border Patrol and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department aren't doing by conducting citizens' arrests on illegal immigrants and detaining them.

If it follows through on its promise, the group would be taking things further than other anti-illegal immigration groups, such as The Minutemen Project, which have previously deployed their members to monitor the U.S.-Mexico border and only report illegal immigrant sightings.

The Private Police Force is threatening to actually detain illegal immigrants.

"They will be handcuffed to the Oak Trees," according to the group's Web site, so they can be picked up by authorities.

"Don't treat this website lightly," the group states. "We will make Citizens Arrests on Illegal Aliens. We will File Criminal and Civil Complaints if you Hire or House an Illegal. If you have sold a vehicle to an illegal, we will prosecute you under the DMV law too. If you house an illegal, we will also prosecute you under the Zoning Laws."

History Lesson and the Immigration Problem

There is a lot of buzz regarding the immigration issue.

I just found an interesting historical anecdote that may help smooth over some of these angry feelings people are experiencing. After all, the better we know each other, the less likely we are to feel threatened, right? That's what Hillary said, anyway, and she wouldn't tell lies, would she?

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.

This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.

The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.

More Banning of Eeeeevil Flags

It looks like the San Diego area schools do not have a monopoly on banning patriotic clothing. Now Shaw Heights Middle School, in Colorado, is getting in on the act.

"When you're running a school, your first concern is always going to be on the safety of the students and keeping the focus on learning."

I didn't know flags were dangerous contraband.

"The Mexican flag, the U.S. flag, were no longer representing pride in where we're from ... but started to be used as symbols of negativity and racism," she said.

I learned, back in my publik skuul days, that the American flag represented evil and racism and every wrong "ism" known to mankind - oops, humankind... sorry, I was staring at my American flag proudly waving outside my window before writing this sentence. As I was saying, the libs have been teaching "the evil American flag" garbage for decades. Since when did it recently become an issue of "negativity and racism?"

Banning the Flag?

The Oceanside United School District is banning patriotic clothing and all flags, due to last week's immigration protest.

According to school officials, some students are using the garments and flags to taunt classmates... School officials in Oceanside now say that flags -- whether they are U.S. or Mexican or any other country's -- have now become a divider on campuses, saying that some students are using them to taunt other students.

Give me a break. This is just liberalism at an appalling level.

And since when is a flag a "divider" in the sense it is making students face off against each other?

Some critics of the move are calling it a violation of free speech protections guaranteed by the Constitution.
The American Civil Liberties Union points to the landmark Supreme Court case Tinker v. Des Moines. In that case, school officials attempted to stop students who were protesting the Viet Nam War from wearing black armbands.

"The school has to be able to show a strong likelihood that there is going to material and substantial disruption of school, and if they don’t meet that standard, then they can't censor student speech," said Kevin Neenan of the ACLU.

Ain't it scary when you have to agree with the ACLU? The ACLU is right on this issue - is this a biblical sign of the apocolypse?
