Good Capitalism

I always have to admire good capitalism... and so I salute "Pirates of the Carribean" - and even Johnny Depp (a man I have disliked ever since "21 Jumpstreet," but he plays a great pirate!)

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" raided box-office records over the weekend. How does it stack up?

It had the biggest opening weekend ever at $132 million:

2. "Spider-Man" (2002), $114.8 million (above)

3. "Star Wars: Episode III, Revenge of the Sith" (2005), $108.4

4. "Shrek 2" (2004), $108.0

5. "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006), $102.8

It had the biggest single-day take Friday at $55.5 million:

2. "Star Wars, Episode III, Revenge of the Sith" (5/19/05), $50.0 (below)

3. "X-Men: The Last Stand" (5/26/06), $45.1

4. "Shrek 2" (5/22/04)," $44.8
